Walking in Corfu
Corfu has, in comparison to its
size, an enormous variety of
scenery: bare limestone mountains
on the Pantokrator mountain
range; sheer slopes covered with
century old olive groves; Pine
wooded cliffs dropping sharply to
the sea; forest-covered hillsides
in the centre of the island;
impressive coast-lines; little
picturesque coves and beaches;
inland wetlands. You can
therefore come across many
different landscapes in a single
day’s hike. The real Corfu is
predestined by nature to be
discovered on foot and is a real
must for walkers and trekkers.
Take advantage of Corfu’s old
footpaths which link the
traditional villages and discover
the interior of the island which
remains almost completely
undiscovered. Also explore the
coastal routes and discover
impressive coastlines, beside
water of dazzling clarity.
Discover a landscape of olive and
cypress groves and hillsides
scented with wild flowers. Visit
traditional villages where things
are exactly how they used to be
years and years ago.

Indulge into the walker’s
paradise and explore the
following trails:
The Agios Stephanos trail
The Agios Stephanos trail is a
coastal walk that runs from
Kaminaki to Agios Stephanos, on
the north east coast of the
island.
The trail will lead you past the
White House, one time home to the
British writer Lawrence Durrell
and where he wrote Prospero's
Cell in 1937.
This is perhaps one of the most
beautiful walks in Corfu as the
trail follows Sage and Cactus
fringed paths through olive
groves and past quiet coves and
villages, with constantly
changing views of the sea below.
The Kassiopi Trail
From this natural and safe
harbour you can overlook the
northern straits of Corfu and the
Albanian mountain range.
Kassiopi has been used by
Corfiots, Romans, Byzantines and
Venetians (to name but a few) as
a strategic look out point; the
town's derives its name from
kassi, meaning border, and opia,
meaning sight, or look out.

Corfu Trail
It took members of the Corfu
Trail Trust years of voluntary
work to create this unique trail
that introduces visitors to the
island's finest locations. The
Corfu Trail is a long-distance
footpath of approximately 220 km,
which runs the length of Corfu
Island: from the white cliffs
near Arkoudillas at Corfu's
southernmost tip to the wild
coastline of Cape Agia Ekatirini
at its northernmost point!
The trail meanders through all
the island's rural districts and
avoids developed areas, takes in
beauty spots, biotopes, beaches,
picturesque villages, monuments,
monasteries and diverse
landscapes.
The original paths have been
cleared and waymarked with CT
yellow signs, without disturbing
the environment, and placed in
strategic locations on the route.
With the help of the accurate
Corfu Trail map-and guide book
you will easily be able to follow
the trail!
Since the most spectacular
scenery and the biggest
concentration of highlights are
in the north of the island,
walkers are advised to follow the
route from south to north, though
the Corfu Trail has been
waymarked in both directions.
The trail consists of 11
(including 2 minor) daily walks
combining the most beautiful
seashores and landscapes. The
terrain varies, with rough
footpaths, cobbled mule paths,
dirt and gravel tracks and some
minor roads and sandy and pebbly
beaches. The best months to
follow this unique trail are from
February to June and from mid
September to November, when it is
not too hot and views are less
likely to be obscured by heat
haze.
The Trail has been financed
partly by the European Union's
Interreg II programme and partly
from a private source on the
island. Works included clearing
of blocked paths, waymarking and
construction of information
stands at the start, centre and
end of the route
The official Corfu Trail Guide
Book is available at various
locations along the trail as well
as at several bookshops.
